Remedial Massage in Chatswood

Remedial massage is the most common type of massage we provide at Feel Amazing Wellness Centre in Chatswood. It is a hands-on treatment focused on restoring health and function through the systematic assessment and treatment of muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues. Whether you are dealing with pain, injury, tension or just the general wear and tear of daily life, remedial massage is designed to address your specific needs.

Remedial massage is also the booking type to choose if you are not sure what you need. Your therapist will use the right combination of techniques for what your body needs on the day, whether that is deep tissue work, sports-focused treatment, relaxation or a mix of approaches. You do not need to work this out before you book. Just let us know what is going on when you arrive, or add a note when booking online.

If you are claiming a private health fund rebate, remedial massage is the registered treatment type. We have HICAPS available so you can bring your health fund card and pay the gap on the spot.

Who is Remedial Massage For?

Remedial massage suits a wide range of people and situations. You might benefit from remedial massage if you are:

  • Experiencing back, neck or shoulder pain from desk work, study or daily activities
  • Recovering from an injury or surgery
  • Dealing with ongoing muscle tension or stiffness
  • Waking up with aches, a stiff neck or finding it hard to get comfortable at night
  • Carrying physical tension from stress
  • Looking for treatment that addresses the cause, not just the symptoms

Our therapists see these concerns every day and will work with you to find the right approach for your body on the day.

What Happens in a Remedial Massage Session

When you arrive, your therapist will introduce themselves and ask what you would like from the session, including any areas of concern, your preferences for pressure and how you are feeling. They will also discuss your health history, any relevant concerns, and gain your consent before treatment begins. This helps them tailor the session safely and appropriately to you.

During the massage, your therapist uses their hands to find problem areas and applies a variety of techniques to release tightness. These may include deep tissue work, trigger point therapy, acupressure, lymphatic drainage and myofascial release, depending on what your body needs. Massage oil is used on the skin to allow the therapist’s hands to glide smoothly.

You don’t have to choose a specific technique when you book. Our therapists are trained across multiple modalities and will use whatever is most appropriate for your presenting needs.

class=”wp-block-heading”>Session lengths:>

30 minutes – focused work on a specific area (neck and shoulders, lower back)

45 minutes – time to address a primary concern and surrounding areas

60 minutes – our most popular option, allowing thorough treatment across multiple areas

90 minutes – ideal for more complex concerns or when you need a longer, more thorough session

What to Expect After Your Massage

The immediate effect is often a sense of physical lightness, reduced restriction and improved mobility. Many clients notice they can move more freely after treatment, especially if they arrived feeling tight, stiff or limited in a particular area. Some also describe feeling deeply relaxed, sleepy, or as though they are floating out the door.

In the days following your massage:

  • Some soreness is normal, particularly if muscles were tight or haven’t been treated before. This usually settles within 24 hours and is similar to the feeling after a good workout.
  • Drink extra water after your massage, especially if you have had deeper treatment. Some people feel a little lightheaded when getting up from the table, particularly after lying still and relaxing for a while. This usually settles quickly. Take your time, sit for a moment if you need to, and you are always welcome to sit in reception until you feel ready to leave.
  • Take it easy if you feel fatigued. Rest if your body is telling you to.
  • Gentle stretching in a warm shower or a bath with Epsom salts can help if you experience any residual soreness.

Let your therapist know how you felt at your next appointment so they can adjust your treatment accordingly. Sometimes it takes a couple of sessions to get on top of more chronic symptoms, and the more regularly you have treatment, the better your body adapts.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between remedial massage and relaxation massage?

Remedial massage is a therapeutic treatment focused on addressing specific concerns such as pain, injury or muscle tension. It may involve firmer pressure and targeted techniques. Relaxation massage is a lighter treatment focused purely on helping you unwind. Both are beneficial, and your therapist can adjust the balance during your session.

Do I need a referral to get a remedial massage?

No referral is needed. You can book directly online or by phone.

Will my therapist work on the whole body or just one area?

That depends on your session length and what you need. A 30-minute session is typically focused on one area, while a 60- or 90-minute session allows time for broader work. Your therapist will discuss this with you at the start.

How often should I book?

Your therapist will recommend a schedule based on your needs. For ongoing maintenance, many clients come every 2 to 4 weeks. For acute issues, more frequent sessions may be helpful initially, but we generally recommend allowing at least 48 hours between treatments, so your body has time to respond and recover.

Can I request a specific pressure?

Yes. Let your therapist know your preference when you arrive, and give feedback during the session. We want you to be comfortable and will always adjust to your level.

Is remedial massage covered by private health funds?

Yes. Our therapists are registered with health funds and we have HICAPS available for on-the-spot claiming. Bring your health fund card and you only pay the gap. See fees and health fund information

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing and arrive a few minutes early if possible. Your therapist will discuss the areas being treated and provide appropriate draping throughout your appointment. New clients will receive a link via SMS to complete their intake and consent forms before their appointment.

Massage is a hands-on therapy designed to support your overall health and wellbeing. If you have a serious health condition, please consult your GP or specialist. Our therapists will take a health history, discuss any concerns, and gain your consent before treatment begins.
