What treatments can help Winter Aches and Pains

Wintertime can bring out the aches and pains of chronic joint conditions and from muscles being sore just because it’s cold! So, what can help? Heat – yes, the obvious answer when you are cold, but using a heat pack can increase circulation and help reduce muscle pain and stiffness. The use of ice or heat can depend on the cause of your pain: ice is often used for acute injury, while heat helps relax muscles and promotes healing. After you’ve had a massage, using a heat pack can aid your recovery and help maintain the loosening of the muscles that have been worked on. Lying down with a heat pack also helps with relaxation (you could add some lavender essential oil if you need some added stress relief! Just don’t go to sleep with a heat pack on).
Feel Amazing Wellness Centre offers a variety of treatments to gain relief from aches and pains that can get in the way of our daily winter activities. This includes massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, and naturopathy.

So, what do each of these treatments offer you?

What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy offers a holistic approach to health, looking into underlying causes of symptoms, treating the person as a whole, with natural remedies. It is so much more than taking a vitamin, instead involving individualised care, practices that are backed by research, providing professional advice, prescribing quality products and encouraging appropriate lifestyle changes.

From Anthony our Naturopath:

“Naturopaths use herbs, lifestyle change and nutrient based supplements to help the body’s natural healing properties work at optimal levels and heal dis-ease. There are a number of nutritional herbs that can help treat the causes and symptoms of aches and pains, as well as coming from the healing benefit of applying heat. When working with a naturopathic client, I aim to work with you as an individual, to help you feel better and become more empowered to better manage your health.”

Why Chiropractic?
Chiropractic treatment focuses on the relationship between the structure of our body and its functioning, to restore and maintain our health.

From Elijah our Chiropractor:

“I see people who might have an acute injury or have developed chronic issues, being of any age and others are aiming to prevent injury. My intention is to help give my clients the tools and knowledge they need to be able to move better, to stretch out a muscle that is giving them issues, or to help with movements that aid recovery. We can work together to support your confidence to live a better life, where pain may hopefully be less inhibiting.”

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture balances the body’s vital energy, triggering specific points on the skin to treat a variety of conditions; a practice that has been around for thousands of years. Our vital energy is essential to boost and maintain our immune system. In winter we are vulnerable to colds and illness. Acupuncture is like the sunshine warming the body up again, releasing the flow of energy.

From Sumin our Acupuncturist:

“Acupuncture can be effective to treat muscle aches and pains, strains and injury, as well as help to manage chronic pain. Acupuncture also prevents imbalances in the body that cause illness and disease, which may manifest as changes in sleep, digestion, less energy and increased stress levels. Balancing this vital energy enhances your quality of life. When treating someone I focus on the individual, assessing your individual condition and what can be done to improve your body’s functioning and for you to feel better within yourself.

Why Massage?
Massage can provide relief of pain and tension in our bodies by creating a positive effect on the nervous system, circulation, and blood flow. The benefits are many, both physically and mentally.

From Yuki, one of our massage therapists:

“Changing the tension in your body is healing. Massage can help us to escape from all that’s going on in the world right now. Touch is an exchange of energy and becoming aware of and connecting to our bodies can help, no matter our ages. Even when I have a massage, I can be surprised how much tension and muscle tightness I was holding in my body until they start to release it.”
